The role of the Data Catalog in building a Data-Driven Organization


The goal of self-service analytics – to give employees a one-stop shop for data knowledge – requires not only making access to data easy but also requires organizational control over data consistency, accuracy and the appropriate application of data. Data Catalogs help sustain innovation in the data-driven organization by balancing data access and control. We’ll share a perspective on the modern data catalog that includes:

• New techniques like data curation that increase business user engagement with data cataloging

• How the organizational process of adopting a modern data catalog can raise the bar on data literacy in an organization


Satyen Sangani – CEO

Satyen is the CEO of Alation. Before Alation, Satyen spent nearly a decade at Oracle, ultimately running the Financial Services Warehousing and Performance Management business where he helped customers get insights out of their systems. Prior to Oracle, Satyen was an Associate with the Texas Pacific Group and an Analyst with Morgan Stanley & Co. Satyen holds a Masters from the University of Oxford and a Bachelors from Columbia College, both in Economics.

Stephanie McReynolds – VP of Marketing

With over 15 years of data infrastructure and application experience, Stephanie has a track record of bringing new technologies to market and into the hands of business analysts. Stephanie is currently the Vice President of Marketing at Alation. Prior to Alation, Stephanie was instrumental in building the first marketing team at the self-service data preparation provider Trifacta. She previously held senior product management positions at a number of data companies including Teradata, Aster Data and Oracle. Stephanie earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University.
