Topic:
Databricks Cloud: cloud-based notebooks with Apache Spark for team-oriented analytics at scale
Summary:
This talk will present the use of Databricks Cloud, i.e., cloud-based notebooks using Apache Spark with Scala, Python, and SQL. We will cover a brief introduction and history of Spark, and where it fits within the landscape of open source frameworks for Big Data. More to the point, we will explore how to leverage notebooks from a use case perspective, notably how analytics teams can leverage the collaborative features of browser-based notebooks, while avoiding the usual cost of cluster computing solutions – as first generation Big Data firms such as Facebook, Google, Yahoo, etc., have had to bear. Spark recently set a world record for high performance computing, and has also become one of the most popular frameworks for Big Data. We’ll explore the drivers for those, and what it can provide for your team’s analytics needs.
Presenter(s):
Paco Nathan, Director of Community Evangelism
Company Profile:
Databricks was founded by the team that created and continues to drive Apache Spark, the most active open source project in the Big Data ecosystem. Databricks’ vision is to dramatically simplify big data processing and free users to focus on turning data into value. Databricks Cloud, a cloud platform built around Apache Spark, delivers on this vision by combining the power of Spark with a zero-management hosted platform and an initial set of applications built around common workflows. Databricks is venture-backed by Andreessen Horowitz and NEA. For more information, visit http://www.databricks.com.
