BBBT - Hortonworks - 2014
Watch the Video – Need the password?
Topic:
Hortonworks, Hadoop and a New World of Analytics
Summary:
Hadoop has moved beyond the “hype” to become a vital piece of the modern data center. For some, Hadoop is a vehicle to efficiency, allowing them to right-size the data warehouse or cost effectively store mass amounts of data. For others, Hadoop presents a short cut to insight that once was unheard of or not even considered.
However, with all this promise and hype, we must be pragmatic about the adoption of Hadoop in the modern enterprise. The aspirational marketing of some vendors will paint a world where Hadoop blocks out the sun and you replace the EDW and all data systems with Hadoop.
Presenter(s):
Jim Walker – Director of Product Marketing
Jim specializes in open source business models with a focus on accelerating the development and adoption of Apache Hadoop. He has nearly twenty years’ experience building products and developing emerging technologies. During his career, he has brought multiple products to market in a variety of fields, including data loss prevention, master data management (MDM) and now big data. Prior to joining Hortonworks, Walker was the director of global product marketing for Talend after serving as director of sales messaging at Initiate System (now part of IBM). Walker also previously held several managerial positions at Vontu, ServGate Technologies, Phoenix Technologies and American Management Systems.
Company Profile:
Hadoop has arrived as an enterprise data platform. Hortonworks believe that enterprises seeking to unlock the value in their big data will rely on Hadoop as part of their modern data architecture. We aim to enable that by delivering enterprise Apache Hadoop that is deeply integrated with your strategic technologies and existing team capabilities. Hortonworks performs all of its development within the processes of the Apache Software Foundation – our code is 100% open source with zero proprietary extensions. This model is unique to Hortonworks and we believe represents the future of enterprise software development.
