Enabling Self-Service Analytics and Analytic Collaboration in the Architecture
Summary:
Everyone agrees on the value on analytics. The real challenge now lies with IT’s ability to deliver. How do you enable and empower data scientists while at the same time allowing them to collaborate with the “citizen analysts” of the organization? How has the push for analytics to become more pervasive in the enterprise changed how we look at architecture? The answer is, it’s changed everything. The data warehouse has now evolved to a larger ecosystem that is more open, hybrid and multi-structured, of course. Self-service is a driving requirement of the analytic architecture, and IT is now challenged with enabling while maintaining a trusted level of governance and security. Data scientists, unlike data miners, are no longer put into a corner where they can have their own sandbox. They have a need to be able to collaborate and share discoveries and patterns much easier with the business community.
IBM is not only thinking about how to help our clients take advantage of a completely hybrid analytic architecture but how this architecture will work for them, how it will empower more of the business with analytics faster and on demand, and how it will foster collaboration across the key roles needing to share insight to make decisions.

Delivering on the Promise of Self-Service Analytics
Summary:
Last time IBM met with the BBBT, we talked about how self-service analytics are changing the way we architect and consume data in the enterprise. In order to enable self-service analytics, we had to turn the architecture upside down and understand how data is consumed by the many data-hungry roles in the organization. To do this, IBM has focused on four key roles: the application developer, the data engineer, the data scientist, and the business or citizen analyst. Our goal was to clearly understand how people in these roles search, shop, discover and collaborate on data. In June 2016 we announced the first offering which was the culmination of the research and work we had done on data science. The IBM Data Science Experience aims to simplify and change how data scientists work, allowing them to learn, discover and collaborate in one integrated environment. Today we have over 10,000 adopters. In addition, we also knew that to power these new experiences, we needed a new platform to support fluid data movement and trusted access to data. In September 2016, we announced Watson Data Platform, the first data platform to power cognitive decision making. Watson Data Platform enables data-driven professionals to work together in a simpler way to shop, discover and collaborate on data, which can yield insights into the business. The integrated platform features embedded machine learning capabilities and provides user-specific tools on the IBM Cloud. In February 2016, when we met last with the BBBT, we hinted at what we saw was to be the next generation analytics platform. We look forward to showing you how we have delivered on that promise.

Enabling the Coders and the Clickers in Data Science
Summary:
IBM believes data science is a team sport. That means you have to enable the coders as well as the clickers so they can collaborate on the same project, sharing data, results and analytic assets. IBM built Data Science Experience (DSX) as the core platform on which a data scientist can work but also collaborate with others on the data science team. Tools like SPSS Modeler, SPSS Statistics and Watson Explorer can integrate with DSX. In addition, DSX supports new machine learning capabilities that allow continuous intelligence and model management, making the implementation of discoveries easy. All this adds up to enabling everyone to discover more and to build more intelligence into their business.
